SoundExchange

SoundExchange was formed in 2003 after the passage of the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

SoundExchange is a nonprofit performance rights organization in the United States. It collects and distributes digital performance royalties to featured recording artists, master rights owners and independent record labels for the streaming of sound recordings on satellite and online radio. SoundExchange also collects statutory royalties for other types of digital transmissions such as permanent downloads, ringtones and interactive streams.

It is the only organization designated by the U.S. government to administer the Section 114 sound recording license, SoundExchange collects and distributes digital performance royalties on behalf of 600,000 creators and growing.
