Internship Opportunities

Music Industry City / Future Music Forum offers rolling internship opportunities throughout the year. Please note that some are for Music Industry City as a whole and some are specific to the Future Music Forum: Barcelona conference. 

MIC Internship Program

Music Industry City / Future Music Forum is a global industry lifestyle community, digital broadcast network, and event series – with a decade-old flagship conference held each year in Barcelona.

Based in New York and Barcelona, MIC’s core mission is to provide innovative, informative, and inspirational content for people in the creative and business fields of the industry. 

Our programming consists of conversations and themes that look at the industry as a way of life. We cover the music and entertainment industries, news, technology, educational resources, health and wellness, personal and career development, and industry-related topics.

All positions are remote.

We believe that the value of an internship revolves around the people you work with and the relationships you form to help you grow. Our 3-month internship program provides you with a true learning experience as well as hands-on experience relevant to your career goals. We value accountability and allow our interns to be a part of the process in developing a narrative around our programming and assist you in developing your portfolio.

We hold AMA’s with the MIC team to help answer questions you have about the industry. We frequently bring in industry guests to address your questions, and we do so in a fun and relaxed setting in one of the MIC metaverses.

These are unpaid, part-time internships. Credits can be applied to school where applicable. All people who successfully complete the internship program will receive lifelong free access to the premium website and our annual conference, as well as additional benefits.

Music Industry City Internships

This is an ideal internship for college students who want to learn about the different aspects of community management while developing strategic workplace skills in social media, marketing, PR, and communications – as well as opportunities to develop new skills such as project management and event organization.

Ultimately, you will be able to act as the face and voice of the MIC/FMF brand and manage community engagement and communications.

Responsibilities

  • Keep our communities active and engaged through creative content production (text, image, video (Instagram Reels, etc.) on the MIC website and social media platforms 
  • Host community networking events on our platform or in our metaverse
  • Help bring new members to the MIC community
  • Email communications to MIC members
  • Build relationships with community members, industry professionals and journalists
  • Work with other community managers across our platform
  • Respond to member inquiries 
  • Coordinate with Media, Sales, and Communications teams
  • Work with Events team to help promote events
  • Campaign management
  • Monitor, track and report on feedback
  • Stay up-to-date with digital technology trends
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of content, pitching stories and ideas, and forming a narrative

Qualifications

We recognize that this is an internship and that the purpose of it is for you to learn and obtain more hands-on experience. Nonetheless, we do have some basic requirements, such as a fundamental understanding of social media platforms and basic graphic design skills.

However, the most important prerequisite is that you are motivated, responsible, have something to say, and conduct yourself with integrity. The following is a list of supplementary qualifications that will also be useful.

  • Have some experience in writing or can demonstrate you have what it takes to create content
  • Effective communication and responsible time management

Ultimately, you will be involved in our Future Music Forum digital series and MIC member events.

  • Speaker coordination, including outreach, emails, and other communications including:
    • Sending speakers packages prior to their talk and promoting them on our social channels
    • Post-event communications 
  • Create invitations and event pages on MIC and external platforms
  • Manage communications with attendees
  • Help attract new members to the MIC community through our digital event series
  • Work with other community managers to host member networking events on our platform or in our metaverse
  • Work with the social media team to develop campaigns to increase awareness of digital events
  • Create blog posts for promoting the event and post-event wrap-ups
  • Build relationships with community members and industry professionals
  • Coordinate with Media, Sales, and Events teams to help promote events

This internship will offer hands-on experience in journalism and media. The media teams work in tandem whether you write web content or work on the broadcast media team. Everyone will contribute to the development of content, pitching stories and ideas, and forming a narrative.

Broadcast Content

In this role, you will be involved in MIC broadcasting, which includes podcasts, digital talks, and live-streaming web series.

  • Scheduling of guests
  • Creating packages
  • Research and create broadcast story ideas
  • Assist with live-stream broadcasts

Future Music Forum: Barcelona Conference Internships

This is an ideal, fast-paced and exciting internship for college students who want to learn about the different aspects of event production while developing strategic workplace skills in event operations, business management skills, marketing, PR, and communications. In this role you will report directly to the FMF Director and oversee FMF teams.

Ultimately, you will be involved in planning and execution of our Future Music Forum: Barcelona conference in September, 2022. 

Executive Event Assistant Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the FMF Director to execute the Future Music Forum: Barcelona conference
  • Industry Relations: communications and setting up meetings with potential speakers, sponsors, partners, venues, etc.
  • Oversee team assignments and create weekly reports
  • Oversee staff, interns, and volunteer assignments during event
  • Travel accommodations for speakers
  • Email communications for marketing and with attendees
  • Work with the Social Media and Community manager to keep our communities active and updated through creative content production
  • Work with Media and Events team for any pre-conference promotional events
  • Work with Web team for agenda and other web-specific needs
