Do you feel like your career is stuck in a rut? Your life is not where you want it to be and you feel like there’s no way out?
We all know how it feels to get stuck in a rut. You’re not sure what you want to do next, and you find yourself going through the motions of your life/career without much enthusiasm. It may seem like there is no point in continuing on this path, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! There are many ways for you to get out of this career rut and start enjoying your life/career again. In this post we will discuss 5 tips that have helped others break free of their ruts!
Tip #1: Find your passion and go for it!
This can be anything: a career, an activity, or a goal. The important thing is that you feel passionate about what you’re doing. As long as you are doing something that speaks to you, the rest of your life will fall into place.
Tip #2: Exercise!
This includes cleaning up your home and making sure your day is planned (including what needs to be done when and where). You’ll feel less stressed and more in control of your life.
One thing I’ve found useful is to set up a weekly cleaning schedule for the whole house. This way you’ll feel accomplished when everything is clean and tidy-looking! It can be really daunting to think about cleaning the whole house all at once, so it’s nice to not have to worry about it for a whole week.
Tip #3: Get organized!
The media tends to make us believe we should be comparing ourselves with our peers. We can’t control peer comparisons, so why compare yourself to them? Why not just work on getting better at what you do? How about improving your relationships? Improve a skill or learn something new? Be the best version of you. There is only one person we can be sure that we are better than, and it’s yesterday’s you!
Tip #4: If you’re feeling unmotivated, ask yourself these questions to help find what career path or life goals will fulfill your passions and desires:
- What excites me?
- Who am I in my own mind’s eye?
- If money were not an issue, how would I live my life?
- What are my skills and how can I use them in the best way possible to make a career out of them?
- What does “best” mean to me, what’s important to me?
Tip #5: Join a community for people who share the same interest as you.
One great way to get out of your rut is to find groups of people who share your interests and passions, online or in person. You might be surprised at how many people are interested in the same things that you are! It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re so deep in your own thoughts, but by joining a group of other like-minded people, you’ll immediately feel energized and connected.
Don’t just look for places where you may have shared interests with others – try to look for groups where there’s an established community. Or, even join a community on a topic that you’ve been interested in for some time but haven’t had the chance to pursue.
Finally…
Always remember that life is what you make it. You have to be proactive if you want things to change! If something doesn’t feel right for you, don’t settle for it – find something that does. Or, you can always go fishing.
